A Modern Day Fairytale

Once upon a time…

Don’t all fairytales begin that way? Well, here is my fairytale.

Once upon a time a few years ago, there was a young woman who wanted to write stories. Not only did she want to write her own stories, but she used her talent of seeing others’ abilities to encourage them to use what they had been given. This young woman is our daughter, Amanda Salisbury.

One day, she called a meeting of her extended family. She began the process of persuading all of us to start a business with her. The idea was met with some resistance, however she ass very convincing. So we began the company that would become ShyJotLLC. One may wonder where such an unusual name was born. After many suggestions, ShyJot arrived out of the first letter of last names in the organization and Jot to represent both the written word and art.

This was a brand new field for people who, in former lives, have been and some still are teachers, funeral directors, attorneys, accountants, office managers, and computer geeks. But we all agreed to give it our best. People kept their day jobs and worked at how to make this venture grow.

The road has not been an easy one. We have struggled to find the right path for us both individually and collectively. We have learned so much. The more we learn the more we realize that there is so much more to learn. We have come a long, long way and keep moving forward.

This year, three of us had the pleasure of attending the SCBWI conference in NYC. It was amazing and wonderful and scary.  We are armed with more information and opportunities to succeed.

So, how does this fairytale end? Is there a happily ever after? Do we get published?

Hang around and see. No matter what else happens, there is a happily ever after because we are living that part now.

May you follow your dream.

I have not only lived many chapters in one life, but many lives in one body. The person I am today is far wiser than the me of young adulthood. My life is like your life with its ebb and flow. We are all connected in some way. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother, but what makes me, well, me is the way I wife, mother, and grandmother. I am a liver transplant survivor. Whatever devastation you have survived, we survived in our individual ways. I create with words and photos. I am a writer and photographer.
