Loves Games

The couple silently faces each other across the table. Glancing down, Jordan traces the pattern on the tablecloth. Kelly watches knowing her next move will be to lift her glass and peek flirtingly over the rim. They played this scene so many times that either of them could tell you exactly how the game would play. Tonight’s game isn’t the same old game, though. Kelly has a surprise for Jordan.

Kelly unable to contain his excitement any longer waves to the waiter for the check, pays the tab, and escorts Jordan to the door telling her to wait while he brings the car.

Once in the car, they casually chat the familiar words of many such talks as a soft summer rain begins to fall.

Jordan is confused as the car turns into a drive unfamiliar to her, which does not clear any as she squints through the rain to see where they are.

She turns to question Kelly about why they are here only to see a deed held in front of his face.

A smile and a tear are on her face as he slowly lowers the paper and she leaps over to hug him.

This is her perfect house she had wished they could buy.

I have not only lived many chapters in one life, but many lives in one body. The person I am today is far wiser than the me of young adulthood. My life is like your life with its ebb and flow. We are all connected in some way. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother, but what makes me, well, me is the way I wife, mother, and grandmother. I am a liver transplant survivor. Whatever devastation you have survived, we survived in our individual ways. I create with words and photos. I am a writer and photographer.
